Europa Recon is designed to characterize the ice shell thickness, magnetic environment, and plume chemistry surrounding Jupiter’s ocean moon before cryobot deployment missions are approved.
Current Operations
The craft is midway through its outer-planet transfer profile. AEON flight dynamics teams are using cruise data to refine autonomous plume interception routines.
Why It Matters
Europa remains one of the strongest candidates for extraterrestrial habitability in the solar system. Reconnaissance data will determine where and how AEON attempts the first controlled sub-surface access mission.
